Sampson County Schools is proud to announce that Ms. Jennifer Daughtry, Executive Director of High Schools and Student Support Services, has been honored with the Global Special Education Associates (GSEA) North Carolina “SPEDDY” Award for Executive Director of the Year.
The award was presented during the North Carolina Council of Administrators of Special Education (NC-CASE) Conference held on September 29, 2025, in recognition of Ms. Daughtry’s outstanding leadership, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to students with disabilities.
A Leader with Heart and Vision
With more than 20 years of service in Sampson County Schools, Ms. Daughtry has become a cornerstone of the district’s mission to support all learners. Known for her compassion and tireless dedication, she consistently goes above and beyond to meet the needs of students and their families—often working evenings, weekends, and holidays to ensure no concern goes unanswered.
Colleagues describe Ms. Daughtry as “one of the hardest-working individuals you will ever meet,” and “a fearless advocate for students with disabilities.” Her leadership extends far beyond administrative duties; she is a problem solver, a collaborator, and a mentor who always puts students first.
“Upon meeting Ms. Daughtry, you can’t help but see the depth of care she exudes for each student and their families,” said one colleague. “She has a true heart of gold, and the mold was broken when she was born. She’s an incredible advocate and one-of-a-kind leader.”

In her role, Ms. Daughtry oversees initiatives that support both academic achievement and student well-being, ensuring that every student—regardless of ability—has the opportunity to thrive. Her work exemplifies the district’s commitment to inclusion, equity, and high expectations for all learners.
Superintendent and board members joined in congratulating Ms. Daughtry on this well-deserved honor, expressing pride in her continued service to the students and families of Sampson County.
