Sampson County Schools recently hosted its annual end-of-the-school-year workshop dedicated to its custodial staff, which emphasized hands-on training and professional development. The event was designed not only to enhance custodians’ skills but also to encourage camaraderie and knowledge sharing within the team.

A highlight of the workshop was the active participation in training sessions, including the use of fire extinguishers, where custodians practiced essential safety techniques. Veteran custodians played a key role by setting up training stations and offering expert insights on equipment use.  Many custodians expressed how helpful it was to learn directly from seasoned professionals who brought real-world experience to the sessions.

The workshop featured contributions from supply vendors Brame, Cintas, Seven Oaks, and others. These experts shared their specialized knowledge on topics such as floor care, bathroom maintenance, and OSHA compliance training, providing custodians with up-to-date best practices and safety standards.

Pastor Tyler Jernigan of Colonial Heights Church served as the guest speaker. Pastor Jernigan not only delivered an encouraging message but also performed a few songs on guitar, accompanied by his daughter Willow, making the event more memorable and meaningful.

The workshop concluded with door prizes, generously supported by Jostens through a $1,000 donation, in appreciation for the custodial team’s hard work throughout the school year.

Overall, the workshop was a success, combining practical skills training, expert knowledge sharing, and community spirit for the dedicated custodians who keep the schools safe and well-maintained.
