Our Foreign Language department is doing great things at MHS!
Spanish 2 with Mrs. Creech just finished creating their shoebox project. They constructed a house out of a shoebox, then used their academic vocabulary to label, in Spanish, the things they created. After identifying each item, they were then asked to write sentences in Spanish to describe the location of each item.
Our Honors Spanish 3 and 4 class is currently "traveling" to Costa Rica. They are learning the basic facts, history, culture, and famous places of this Spanish speaking country.
Our Spanish I classes have also been hard at work. Mr. Cervantes' students learned about the Day of the Dead holiday that is primarily celebrated in Mexico on November 1st and 2nd. It is a holiday that is meant to remember and celebrate the deceased, and people do so by creating altars (or ofrendas) in honor of close loved ones who have passed away. My Spanish 1 students were then asked to create their own version of an ofrenda celebrating the life of anyone deceased of their choosing. Students picked a wide variety of people from celebrities to historical figures to personal loved ones.
