COVID Vaccine for Ages 5-11 Available at Sampson RMC

Posted on 11/03/2021

Pfizer Vaccine now available for Children ages 5-11

Sampson Regional Medical Center has received its first shipment of pediatric doses of the Pfizer vaccine approved for children ages five and up.  Administration of the vaccine will begin tomorrow, November 4th, during their Pfizer walk-in clinic.

Results from clinical trials of more than 3,000 children ages 5-11 showed the vaccine to be safe and effective.  Children in this age group are given two doses, each with one-third the dose given to children 12 and up.  The second dose is given 21 days after receiving the initial dose.

Children in the clinical trial experienced similar side effects as adults after receiving the vaccine, such as sore arm, headache, and tiredness for a day or so.

We encourage parents to reach out to their healthcare provider for guidance on whether the vaccine is appropriate for their child at this time.

Parents seeking the Pfizer vaccine for their children ages 5-11 may visit during clinic hours with no appointment necessary.
