Hello! My name is Christopher Todd and I will be your child's academic facilitator for the the upcoming school year. It is my goal to transform your child from a student to a lifelong learner. My class is designed to teach skills and strategies necessary to achieve academic success now and in the future. At all stages of their lives and in every area of learning, work, and relationships, students are and will be challenged to analyze, investigate, and evaluate. Therefore, it is my intention to teach, support, and enrich each student and their learning.
In grade seven, students will read independently for extended periods of time. They will analyze the connections between the texts they read and the real world. They will demonstrate how to paraphrase, evaluate and summarize the information they read. They will distinguish between fact and opinion. Seventh grade students will further analyze various types of conflicts and continue identifying imagery and symbolism. In addition, students will evaluate points of view, elements of poetry, and various types of figurative language.
Grade seven students will continue asking questions to investigate a topic. They will also enhance their ability to access information from a variety of sources as well as develop their skill in conducting independent research and summarizing the information they gather. Grade seven students will also develop better writing skills. Over the course of the year, students will be introduced to various types of writing and will be expected to demonstrate their mastery through various writing assessments.
I graduated with a bachelors degree from UNCW in 1995. I also have advanced education courses from Ole Miss and Mississippi State University. I have been teaching for twenty-five years, with the last fourteen being at Union Middle School.
