BFA Dance Education- East Carolina University
Certified in Dance K-12
I fell in love with dance when my mom took me to my first ballet class. It was at Dancer's Corner Studio in Wallace, NC. I was 6 years old and I knew immediately that I had to find a way to make dance a part of my life forever.
I attended Chinquapin Elementary (K-8) where I was a member of the Beta Club and active in volleyball, softball, and soccer. I graduated ranking within the top 10 of my 8th grade class. I then attended East Duplin High School where I was very active in many clubs and activities such as VICA-Drafting Club, FFA, SGA, Queen of Hearts Fundraiser, and Homecoming Court. I graduated as an NC Scholar.
I have been involved in pageantry since I was 16 years old. I have held many titles such as Miss East Coast and many different titles within the Duplin County Relay for Life Pageant, Coastal Cape Fear Pageant, Bladen County 4th of July Pageant, and Kelly Spring Festival Pageant.
I decided to further my education at East Carolina University with a BFA in Dance Education. While at ECU, I studied Ballet with Joe Carow, Jazz with Tommi Galaska, Modern with Patti Weeks and Rodger Belman, and Tap with Clarine Powell. I always knew I had a love of dance, but it was not until my sophomore year in college that I discovered my love for teaching.
I currently teach dance education at Union High School to give students an opportunity I never experienced during my high school career...a chance to take dance class in school! I also teach dance at Sampson County Arts Camp every summer.
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to join Dancer's Corner Studio this time as a teacher instead of a student. I currently teach Pointe, Jazz, and Lyrical classes to ages 11 and up. I enjoy working with all of my students and my goal as a dance teacher is to influence my students to believe in themselves and grow in self-confidence through the art of dance.
