Mrs. Krista Henry

Krista Henry

Greetings to all!

Welcome to the Resource Classroom at Union High School! I am Mrs. Krista Henry. This marks my 28th year in education (16th at UHS). I take pride in teaching here, having walked the halls as a student more than 30 years ago at the old UHS site, currently Union Middle School. I especially enjoy teaching high school students, which gives me a great sense of pride in helping them plan for life after graduation. As far as my teaching philosophy, it’s fairly simple- to meet students where they are and build on from there. Let us all work together in helping our students be the best version they can possibly be.

Go Spartans!

aprilkindness

April is for Kindness- Let's make it contagious!!! This month, our focus is exam preparation, our last topic. It includes comprehension, academic vocabulary, organization, and thinking strategies designed to help students prepare for exams, no matter the subject area.

Students will also get to see a motivational movie, The Ron Clark Story. It is based on the real life story of Mr. Clark, an educator from North Carolina. He first taught in our state, and then he moved to New York and began serving more challenging students. He made his students feel like family and provided them with unique learning experiences and the gift of believing in themselves, which ultimately helped them achieve high academic scores.

As the last few weeks of school come upon us, let us all continue working together for the success of our students. Feel free to voice any questions or concerns you have by reaching out to me or other teachers of your child. Also, you are invited to click on any of the following links to stay updated with important school dates.

march

Class is in full swing! Quarter 3 report cards were distributed on March 17, and Quarter 4, the last one of the school year, has begun. We are currently studying comprehension strategies related to theme, sentence and paragraph correction, and order of operations. One of students' most enjoyable recent activities has been watching and completing a film review for Akeelah and the Bee. This 2006 drama is about an 11-year-old girl, Akeelah (Real life Kee Kee Palmer) from South Los Angeles who overcomes doubting herself and competes in a national spelling bee. Through the movie, we have been studying theme. Self-belief, resiliency, and community are three common themes brought out in this movie.

We are continuing to utilize Google Classroom for access to lesson presentation, assignments, and assessments, but we are also using additional educational platforms to enhance student learning. These include: Ed Puzzle, Read Works, AAA Math, and 99 Math for a more interactive learning experience.

Also, a note to parents, although I make regular calls for positive notes, academic/behavior concerns, and IEP meetings, please don't hesitate to call if you have questions or concerns regarding your child. Communication is one of the key factors to your child's success! UHS students are given time in each class every Friday during REACH sessions to make up missing and/or incomplete assignments and tests. In our class, students receive additional time almost daily to makeup work for any of their classes, as this is incorporated into our daily schedule.

Through our online platform AAA Math, we are building daily computation skills, with the ultimate goal of reaching grade level and above. Our newly launched learning platform, 99 Math, challenges students in a gamified, interactive format, which they truly enjoy.
