Lorrie Cannady

Mrs. Cannady

Welcome to My World - the World of First Grade!

I am Lorrie Cannady and I have been teaching Awesome First Graders since August of 2005.  I started my teaching profession at Charles E. Perry/Roseboro Elementary where I continue to teach.

"“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.”

Latin Proverb

Teaching is a challenge and it is true that teachers are life long learners because I learn something new everyday!  Yes, I have to teach to earn a living, but my greatest reward is being able to help a child that is struggling to reach a goal, no matter how small, that he or she thought was unobtainable.  What a pleasure when a child that could not read or could not write finally catches on and says, "Gosh, Ms. Cannady did I really read the whole thing?"  It is my pleasure to say, "Yes baby, you read the whole thing!"

If I could say anything to the world at large about children I would encourage every parent to realize that an education truly begins at birth.  Once that precious child is placed in your hands he or she begins to soak in all of it's surroundings.  Parents, please be a part of your children's lives and encourage them to be the best that they can be.

If I could make an apology to anyone, it would be to the teachers that taught my daughter before I became an educator.  No one really knows what responsibilities a teacher has until they become one.  If someone makes a decision to teach because they work from 7:45 until 3:15 and have summers off - umm, they better think again.  For me, teaching is just about 24-7.

I have enjoyed sharing a part of me with you.  If I am having the pleasure of teaching your child, thank you for letting me share a part of you!!!

Meet Your Teacher!

Degrees and Certifications: I graduated from Lakewood High School in 1979.  I obtained an Associates Degree in Accounting in 1983 and worked in the world of business for 20 years.  In the fall of 2003 I returned to school at Campbell University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education.  I feel that my life experiences have enhanced my ability to teach.  I can truthfully say that I love my job and I am so happy to give back to the community where I was raised.

Family & Background: I grew up in Sampson County with 3 brothers and 1 sister, with me being the youngest.  When we were young we traveled a lot and our parents taught us how to be good productive citizens. Now, I reside in Salemburg.  I have one daughter, Amelia, and she is the light of my life. I am so very proud of her and the choices she has made in her life. I am the proud Nama of Jase and twins are coming soon!
