EBOB Program Information for 2019-2020
Does your child love to read? Does your child love to read but may have a hard time finding that ‘just right’ book? Consider having him/her participate in Midway Elementary School's Battle of the Books program for the 2019-2020 school year.
EBOB is a program that is sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA). Each year the NCSLMA chooses fifteen books based upon literary merit, reading level difficulty, and genre. Schools that choose to participate in the EBOB program create teams of fourth and fifth graders who read and study the books and prepare to answer questions about the books in order to participate in a ‘quiz bowl’ style competition. Our school district’s competition is held in March and each school is allowed to bring twelve students to compete.
In order to participate in EBOB students are required to read four books on their own by October 3rd. Note that there will be no after school meetings until the twelve member team is determined. During the week of September 30- October 4, students who would like to be considered for our EBOB team will take a test during their media class time which will cover the four required books. The twelve member team will be chosen based upon the results of the test, title/author test, notes from the books, and AR test. Beginning in October, our twelve EBOB team members will begin to meet and will continue to meet until the district EBOB competition in March. If your child is interested in EBOB it is recommended that they begin reading over the summer. Click on the link under EBOB book list tab to access this year's reading list.
