This year I will be teaching math and science. This year, your child will be expected to memorize multiplication facts through 9's. Memorization of these facts will enable students to be successful in 3rd grade and beyond. Other areas of study for 3rd grade math include: rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100, addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers with regrouping, multiplying by multiples of 10, patterns on a hundreds chart, simple division, multiplication properties (commutative, associative, identity, zero, and distributive), identifying quadrilaterals, fractions (naming, comparing, equivalent), telling time to the nearest minute, finding elapsed time, area, and perimeter. As you can see, there is a lot to learn this year. Again, I stress that memorizing multiplication facts is imperative in 3rd grade. For this reason, students are given a multiplication quiz every Friday throughout the school year. We will do lots of hands-on work and use dry-erase markers almost daily in my class. I am looking forward to a great year! GO WILDCATS!!!
