February is American Heart Month, a time when all people can focus on their cardiovascular health. According to the most recently published scientific data, about 90% of the 350,000 people who experience a cardiac arrest outside of the hospital each year will not survive. Less than half of people who need it receive the immediate care that is required before professional help arrives. In order to achieve better health outcomes in our community, Union High School would like to donate an AED to a local applicant.
In 2018, Cameron Burley, who was 17 at the time, collapsed during gym class. Thanks to the lifesaving efforts of our school staff, including Cameron's father, Coach Burley, and the use of an automated external defibrillator, Cameron survived. Every year, UHS and the Burley family raise money to purchase AED's to donate to community organizations in hopes to save more lives.
