Welcome to Plain View Elementary School Home of The Eagles Greetings from Mrs. Gaynor C. Hammond, Principal
I hope you had a great summer! We are ready and excited to begin another year at Plain View Elementary School. As we move into the 2012-13 school year we embrace the new curriculum—CCSS (Common Core State Standards). We will continue to focus on student academic growth and student learning. We always pride ourselves on hardworking, determined teachers and students. We are a faculty that works together to teach the curriculum to our students while implementing the use of technology, global learning practices and student accountability. We work together to develop the whole child in a safe and caring environment. School safety is a top priority. The safety of all of our faculty and students is vital. Several key safety policies are in place to protect everyone. Tornado, fire, severe weather and lock down drills will be conducted throughout the school year to ensure that we are prepared and ready. In order to provide a SAFE environment for our staff and students we must closely monitor ALL movement within our school each and every day. To provide quality feedback from our teachers to our parents, scheduled conferences during NON-INSTRUCTIONAL time is a must. The following site based policies will go into effect for the 2012-2013 school year. 1. Parents will report to the front office as they enter school. Parents WILL NOT be allowed to go to a teacher’s room unless a meeting time has been PREVIOUSLY scheduled with the teacher and it is during a non-instructional time. 2. All teacher parent conferences will be scheduled for non- instructional times agreed upon by both parties. This allows for a quality meeting to address any questions that a parent has. 3. A parent that has a scheduled meeting with a teacher MUST wear a visitor’s sticker provided by the front office. As we teach the NEW CCSS- Common Core State Standards, we will be teaching and preparing our students to be 21st Century Learners and to become global learners. We will implement researched based teaching practices like thinking maps and SIOP. We are focusing on literacy based instruction in all areas of instruction as well as student academic growth and learning. This year we will continue to use student data to drive our instruction, implement targeted instructional groups to promote student academic growth, implemented researched based intervention strategies to close and reduce achievement gaps and stretch learning. Continue Increasing rigor and relevance in our teaching practices, and prepare our students to be accountable for their own learning. We are extremely fortunate to have a positive, supportive learning community. Our parents and community members play a vital role in our success here at Plain View. I cannot say enough about how supportive they are for our school, faculty and students. We have the belief that we are all in it together and it takes all of us to be successful. Plain View Elementary School has a tremendous faculty that is both extremely focused and dedicated to our students and community. I am blessed to be a part of Plain View Elementary School and this community. I am so proud of the faculty here for THEIR accomplishment and recognition of School of Excellence for the 2011-12 school year. Our students are extremely lucky to have the opportunity to be a part of Plain View Elementary school and our learning community. We are looking forward to the 2012-13 school year! |
